NATIONAL Grid Electricity Distribution is inviting communities in the Ogmore Valley to share their views on proposals to connect the Upper Ogmore wind farm to the electricity distribution network in South Wales.
The proposed connection would link to the network near the Foel Trawsnant wind farm site, which already has planning consent, on the border of Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot.
To deliver clean energy from the new wind farm, National Grid plans to install around 9km of new 66kV electricity cable, including 4.8km of overhead lines and 4.2km of underground cables.
Located near Blaengarw and Nant-y-Moel, the wind farm will use seven turbines to generate 25MW of renewable energy annually, enough to power approximately 16,500 homes.
Kayleigh Jones, Consents and Wayleave Specialist at National Grid Electricity Distribution, said: “We’re committed to delivering secure, affordable and clean energy for our customers and communities.
“We live and work in the communities we serve, and this statutory consultation is an important opportunity for people to help shape our plans as they progress.”
The wind farm development was approved by the Welsh Government in 2022. National Grid’s proposals for the grid connection are now being presented to Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW), local authorities and communities as part of the statutory consultation process.
The statutory consultation began on November 12 and runs to January 5, 2026. Further information on the project and details on how to give feedback can be found on the National Grid’s Upper Ogmore Wind Farm webpage.
