MEMBERS of the Coychurch Crematorium joint committee have been given a report on their annual performance and accounting statement for the 2024-25 financial year.

Figures from the Bridgend site’s annual accounting statement were heard by the committee at a meeting held on June 13, 2025, showing that a net surplus of £615,097 was made.

The report said the surplus had been added to the accumulated reserves for the crematorium, taking it to a total of £2,698,920 as of March 31, 2025 compared to £2,083,823 in the previous year.

This came primarily as a result of an underspend on premises and utility costs along with an investment income of £105,000 – however it was also noted that substantial funds would need to spent in the coming years on replacing equipment and upgrading road systems.

In a separate review officers added that the crematorium had also maintained a score of 100% in a public satisfaction questionnaire, with high standards noted for the way funeral services were run, as well as the standards of maintenance to the grounds and buildings.

The leader of Bridgend County Borough Council, John Spanswick, praised staff and everyone involved for what he said was an “amazing performance” over the course of the year.

Members later approved the annual accounting statement for Coychurch Crematorium for submission to Audit Wales.
