A PLANNING application to turn two vacant industrial buildings near Maesteg into affordable flats has been handed in to the local authority.
The proposal could eventually see the demolition of the MET Fabrications Buildings in Ewenny Road, Maesteg, to make way for two roughly L-shaped buildings.
Standing at three storeys in height each of the buildings would contain nine flats each once completed.
The Maesteg site is bordered by a railway to the east and Ewenny Road to the north in a largely residential area around 300m from Ewenny Road train station.
The application was handed in to Bridgend County Borough Council by Simply Planning on behalf of Pontypridd Development SPV 1 in October of 2025.

Developers say the scheme offers the opportunity to create more modern buildings in the residential location to replace the site which currently “detracts from the overall character of the area”.
The report said: “This application seeks permission for the demolition of the existing buildings and erection of 18 flats at Ewenny Road, Maesteg, to be provided as 100% affordable housing.
“The scheme proposes the erection of two residential buildings with both blocks proposed to be three storeys and contain nine flats each.
“The proposed affordable housing would be allocated in accordance with Bridgend Social Housing Allocation Policy so would be allocated to those who the council consider is most in need of an affordable dwelling based on the identified criteria.”
The plans for the new flats will now be considered with a decision by Bridgend County Borough Council’s planning department in the coming months.
If they are eventually given the green light they would be based close to the former Ewenny Road industrial estate in Maesteg.
Here a multi-million-pound regeneration project is about to take shape that features plans for 200 new homes, shops, and community facilities.
