Maesteg pupils learn about eye care and road safety from local opticians

KEY STAGE TWO pupils at Ysgol Cynwyd Sant, Maesteg welcomed a local opticians to talk about the importance of regular eye tests.

Optometrist Claudia Smit and manager and dispensing optician Christian Aston from Specsavers Maesteg visited the school to raise awareness of children’s eye health. They also donated 100 high-visibility vests to keep pupils safe and visible when out in the community.

The Maesteg team delivered an interactive session with Year 3 and 4 pupils, aged from seven to nine years old, discussing why eye tests are important and the anatomy of the eye.

Optometrist Claudia Smit, commented: “We had a fantastic time visiting the pupils at Ysgol Cynwyd Sant.

“Helping children develop good eye health habits from a young age is so important. Regular eye tests help spot issues early, ensuring children have the clear vision they need to learn, play and grow confidently.

“Taking the children hi-vis vests was another way to engage them in our work and broaden their understanding of road safety.”
