Patrols start over May Day weekend at popular Bridgend beaches
THE May Day bank holiday weekend will mark the start of this year’s seasonal RNLI lifeguard service across Bridgend County Borough.
RNLI lifeguards will be on duty daily at Coney Beach, Sandy Bay and Trecco Bay from Saturday, May 2 until Sunday, September 6. Patrols at Rest Bay will begin slightly later, running from Saturday, May 23 until Sunday, September 6.
From Monday, September 7 until September 27, lifeguard patrols at Coney Beach, Sandy Bay and Trecco Bay will operate on weekends only. Weekend patrols at Rest Bay will run from September 7 until September 13.
Seasonal restrictions on dogs and other animals will also come into force at several local beaches from Friday, May 1 until Wednesday, September 30.
During this period, dogs will not be permitted at Town Beach, Rest Bay, Coney Beach, Sandy Bay or Trecco Bay, but will still be welcome all year round at Newton Beach, Pink Bay and Sker Beach.
Further information about dog access on local beaches is available via the council website.
The RNLI, alongside other volunteer lifeguard services, plays an important role in helping the council maintain Blue Flag status at Trecco Bay and Rest Bay.
Councillor Neelo Farr, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economic Development and Housing, said: “We have a long history of working alongside the RNLI charity, and I am really pleased to see that this council-funded lifeguard service is set to continue for the 2026 season.
“Bridgend County Borough features several stunning local beaches, and residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy a day at the seaside knowing that the lifeguards are available to offer help and support.”
