SAUSAGE roll fans can look forward to the prospect of Greggs opening a new branch in Ystrad Mynach.
The bakery giant has applied for planning permission to convert the former Lloyds bank premises, at 15 Bedwlwyn Road.
According to documents submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council, the new store will create one full-time and 13 part-time jobs.
If approved, opening hours would range from 5.30am to 7pm on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 8am to 4pm on Sundays.
A design statement by the agents, at JMS Planning and Development, shows half of the premises would be “back of house” for food preparation, storage, staff toilets and changing rooms.
The front of the premises, meanwhile, will include toilets, seating for around 29 people, and the usual serving and counter areas.
In support of the application, the agents have also noted Greggs’ work to tackle food waste and support for communities and children’s nutrition.
“The proposed Greggs bakery is considered to offer a beneficial service to the shoppers, workers and staff of the area by providing an accessible, attractive and affordable bakery bringing lunching opportunities on site,” the agents added.
Lloyds closed its bank in Bedwlwyn Road in 2022, citing a drop in customers using the branch.
The new planning application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 25/0224/COU.
