Christmas Memorial Service at Thornhill Crematorium

AN ECUMENICAL Christmas Memorial Service will be held at the Wenallt Chapel at Thornhill Crematorium on Sunday, November 30, at 11.30am.

The 45-minute service, conducted by Rev. Jason Tugwell, will include a selection of readings, poems and carols, with Deborah Morgan Lewis leading the singing. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Cllr Norma Mackie, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Bereavement Services, said: “Christmas can be a difficult time for those who have lost someone close.

“This annual service offers people of all faiths the opportunity to come together and remember those who are no longer with us.”

Each year, Cardiff’s Bereavement Services team supports a different charity. In 2025, a collection will be held in aid of the Lord Mayor of Cardiff’s two chosen charities for the year: the Forget-Me-Not Chorus and the Rescue Hotel.

Initially established in Rhiwbina, the Forget-Me-Not Chorus, brings the joy of singing to people living with dementia, and those who support them. Their organised singing sessions are for people with all forms of dementia, as well as the families, friends and professional staff looking after them.

The Rescue Hotel is a volunteer-led charity dedicated to supporting the dogs at Cardiff Dogs Home. It helps to improve the lives of rescue dogs by providing essential care, funding vital resources, and ensuring they have the best possible chance of finding loving forever homes.

Memorial tags, available for a minimum donation of £2.00, can be placed on the Christmas Memorial trees in the Wenallt Chapel Courtyard in memory of loved ones. The trees will remain in place until Twelfth Night.

A live web stream of the service will be available for those unable to attend in person by clicking here (https://watch.obitus.com/login). The username to access the stream is ‘thornhill’ and the password is ‘snow’
