New digital space launches with free family fun day

A NEW community space, designed to support digital skills development and community engagement will be launched next week.

The Digital Learning Lounge is a new service at Central Library Hub where visitors of all ages and abilities can access digital support.

The launch of the new facility, on the fifth floor of the city centre hub, will take place on Wednesday April 23 (12pm-4pm) with a digital fun day showcasing the support and services on offer as well as lots of family-friendly activities.

The fun day will include taster sessions on family history, stop motion animation, coding and Lego robotics, quizzes and games, arts and crafts, virtual reality, prize giveaways and much more.

Council services including Cardiff Wellbeing Support Service, Customer & Digital Services, Volunteer Cardiff and Tenants Together will also be there to share information and advice with hub visitors about the services they provide.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lee Bridgeman, said: “We’re very much looking forward to the launch of our new Digital Learning Lounge during the Easter holidays.

“It’s going to be a great free event – perfect for families looking for something fun to do with the kids over the break. Everyone is welcome, bring the grandparents along too to help get them up to speed with all things digital!

“It’s so important these days to have even just a basic knowledge of the digital world. It’s about so much more than entertainment and it’s why we’ve established the learning lounge to help customers to make the most of the digital experience – whether that’s for work, helping to simplify daily tasks or helping to reduce social isolation by keeping people connected.”

The Digital Learning Lounge is open Monday to Friday, where visitors can get help troubleshooting devices, accessing websites, contacting local services and filling out online forms. It’s also a space for learners to practice their skills.

Following the launch, daily activities will focus on topics such as digital employability, creativity and productivity.
