A MURDER investigation is under way after a seventeen-year-old girl died and a woman in her thirties was seriously injured during an incident at a home in Cefn Fforest, near Blackwood, on Thursday morning (Nov 13).
Gwent Police said officers were called to Wheatley Place at around 7.15am following reports that two people had suffered significant injuries. Firearms officers were deployed as a precaution, and both the Welsh Ambulance Service and Wales Air Ambulance attended the scene.
The teenager, who was from the local area, was pronounced dead at the property. Her family have been informed, and police say specially trained officers will support them as the investigation progresses.
A 38-year-old woman, also from Cefn Fforest, was taken to hospital, where she remains under treatment for her injuries.
An 18-year-old man from Newbridge has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He is currently in police custody.

Detectives are now working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and have asked anyone with information, CCTV or dash-cam footage from the area on Thursday morning to contact Gwent Police quoting log reference 2400393553.
A police cordon remains in place while enquiries continue.
