Classic car owners in South Wales to raise funds for Childline with 2026 Drive It Day event

CLASSIC car owners will be showing off their magnificent machines when they take part in Drive It Day in South Wales later this month.

The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club South Wales branch has organised a “Drive it Day” event for Sunday, April 26 as part of the National Drive It Day events in aid of Childline.

The starting point is The Coed y Mwstwr Hotel near Coychurch in Bridgend County and the 25 cars taking part will follow a route incorporating Bridgend, Aberavon, Margam and the Afan Valley.

Drive It Day is organised by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) and helps to raise money for the NSPCC’s free counselling and support service for children and young people, Childline. The FBHVC has this year agreed to support Childline with Drive It Day for another five years.

For the event, car owners are encouraged to purchase special plates for their vehicles, with money from the sales going towards helping Childline. Events are set to be held all over the UK.

John Hunt, a member of the JEC’s South Wales committee said; “We are very happy to be supporting the annual, nationwide, Drive It Day event in support of the NSPCC Childline charity.

“Every year owners of classic and collectors’ cars gather to dust the cobwebs off their pride and joy and raise money for Childline.

“As in previous years, the South Wales branch of the JEC will be meeting for a breakfast get together before taking a picturesque drive around South Wales and ending back at their start location for an informal dinner.”

FBHVC chairman David Whale said: “The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, organisers of the annual Drive It Day event, is proud of its association with the NSPCC.

“To date the event has raised over £250,000 in support of Childline. FBHVC applauds the generosity of the historic vehicle community and the unwavering support of FBHVC member clubs and their thousands of enthusiastic members across the UK.”

Jane Horsley, NSPCC Supporter Relationship Fundraiser, said: “We are delighted that the FBHVC has agreed to support Childline for another five years with their Drive It Day event.

“It is always a fantastic sight to see the many wonderful vehicles being displayed at events across the country and giving people a chance to see some wonderful cars up close. Every

penny raised from these events supports the NSPCC’s Childline service which gives children and young people a chance to seek support and help if they have any worries, no matter how big or small.”
