Road closures in place and residents warned to keep windows shut as thick smoke spreads across area
FIREFIGHTERS are battling a major blaze at a business premises in Abercynon today (June 8) after a large office building caught fire.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service remains at the scene of the incident at Ty Menter, Navigation Park, where multiple fire crews and specialist appliances have been deployed in an effort to bring the fire under control.
Aerial ladder platforms, high-volume pumps and water bowsers are among the resources being used, while firefighters have also begun drawing water directly from the River Taff to support the operation.
The building was fully evacuated after the alarm was raised, with neighbouring premises also cleared as a precaution.
Despite the scale of the incident, no injuries have been reported.
Large plumes of smoke have been seen rising above the area, prompting emergency services to advise nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed.
The smoke is also affecting visibility in the vicinity of the A470, with motorists urged to exercise caution and avoid the area where possible.
Road closures and safety cordons have been established around the site and are expected to remain in place for the foreseeable future while crews continue their work.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said there is currently no immediate risk to the wider public outside the established exclusion zones.
Members of the public are being urged to stay away from the area to allow emergency services unrestricted access to the scene.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed and investigations are expected to begin once the incident has been brought under control.
Further updates are expected as the operation continues.
