HC-ONE Wales’ The Daffodils care home in Georgetown, Merthyr Tydfil, enjoyed a visit from Dawn Bowden, Member of Senedd (MS) for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney and Welsh Minister for Social Care, on Thursday, June 6.
Residents and colleagues at the HC-One care home met with MS Bowden and informed her about what life is like at The Daffodils and explained how the care home is an integral part of the local Georgetown community.
The Daffodils provides person-centred residential and residential dementia care. Ms Bowden enjoyed a tour of the 30 bed, purpose-built care home and its summerhouse.
During the tour, the minister spoke to team members about their lengths of service at the care home and about their experiences of working in social care.
The team also talked MS Bowden through the home’s digital transformation journey which includes new digital platforms and innovative digital care planning processes. The new digital platforms will enable carers to have more time to care, which will enhance residents’ daily lives.

MS Bowden shared Welsh Government plans to make social care a wider recognised and better supported career path for young people in Wales. She also met with Deputy Manager Leon Richards, who started with HC-One when he left school as a Kitchen Assistant, and he is now part of the organisation’s ‘Aspiring Home Managers’ cohort.
During her visit, the minister met with residents, and everyone enjoyed commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. She also saw the Pride decorations displayed throughout the home, which were created by the residents.
Eileen Coyle-Jones, HC-One Area Director, said, “It was fantastic for residents and the care team to welcome MS Bowden to the home. We were especially pleased to hear how much she values care as a career and how important our homes are to supporting the local NHS and communities. We look forward to welcoming her back again soon.”
Dawn Bowden, Member of Senedd (MS) for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney and Minister for Social Care, said, “It was good to be on home turf with colleagues and residents at The Daffodils care home in Merthyr Tydfil. Thank you to Eileen and Leon for taking the time to speak to me about the service and care provided and how digital technology is transforming that care.”
