SEVERAL bus services in the Valleys are set to become more frequent from next month.
From Monday, September 1, three bus services in Merthyr Tydfil will run more frequently.
These changes will see the Aberfan and Bryngoleu (81) service increasing from hourly to every 30 minutes, the Dowlais and Pant (35) service increasing from every 30 minutes to every 20 minutes and the Cefn Coed and Trefechan (25) service increasing from hourly to every 20 minutes.
Working with the Cardiff Capital Region and Merthyr Tydfil’s main bus operator Stagecoach, these are routes that have been identified which could increase use on the local bus network.
Jamie Scriven, the council’s cabinet member for economy, regeneration, leisure and tourism said: “This additional funding is a very welcome boost for the communities that these routes serve.

“The Covid-19 Pandemic impacted the use of buses in Merthyr Tydfil, especially by those who hold concessionary passes, and these additional services will hopefully attract more people to use the local bus network.
“It is critical that these services are well utilised by residents so that we can see them continue in future.”
At first the additional services will run to March 31, 2026 with the aim being that this leads to an increase in use that will allow them to be maintained in the future.
The service changes are a result of funding from Welsh Government’s Bus Network Grant.
