Tributes pour in for former Merthyr tydfil councillor Julian Amos following his passing

TRIBUTES have been paid to a long-standing former Merthyr Tydfil councillor who has died.

The council has confirmed Julian Amos, who served the communities of Dowlais and Pant for nine years over two terms on the county borough council, has passed away.

The council said it is saddened to hear of the recent passing of former councillor Mr Amos.

Council leader Brent Carter said: “I’ve known Julian since 2008 when I was first elected as a councillor.

“We always had a good relationship with lots of friendly banter both in and out of the chamber.

“Julian served the people of Merthyr Tydfil for nine years over two terms as a councillor representing the Dowlais and Pant ward.

“Julian will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”

Cllr Darren Roberts posted on social media: “Sorry to hear the sad news that former councillor Julian Amos has passed away.

“Julian was a real character who served his community for many years both as a councillor and school governor.

“Sending my sincere condolences to Julian’s family and friends. Rest easy Julian.”
