Millbank Primary School in Ely, has been commended by Estyn for the school’s effective leadership, inclusive culture, and strong focus on pupil well-being and progress.
During a recent visit, inspectors found that the headteacher and her team have created a calm, nurturing environment where pupils feel valued and respected. The school’s strategic approach to leadership and resource allocation has led to sustained improvement and a strong ethos of care and inclusion. Inspectors noted that staff work collaboratively to provide high-quality learning experiences, particularly in literacy and personal development, and that specialist provision for pupils with additional needs is highly effective.
Estyn’s report also praised the school’s engagement with families and the wider community, which has fostered a strong sense of belonging and improved attendance over the last three years. The school’s safeguarding, site management, and promotion of healthy lifestyles were all found to be robust and effective.
The report identified areas for further development which the school will address in its action plan including strengthening evaluation processes and improving provision for mathematics and enhancing pupils’ Welsh language skills.
Headteacher Catherine Cooper said: “The governing body and I are grateful to the staff and parent community of Millbank who work together to care for our children and ensure that their primary education is rooted in a sense of belonging, wellbeing and inclusion.
“This enables their first experiences of education to be positive, engaging, experiential and creative. These foundations enable them to find their talents and help them prepare for lifelong learning that is meaningful and relevant to them.
