CARDIFF author Louisa Guise will be taking part in a Q&A session on Saturday (April 5) to support a day centre in Abergavenny which has been rescued from closure.
The beloved Tudor Street Centre will be holding an Abergavenny Writing Festival fringe event the same time as the main festival. Hosted by the Gathering Community, a number of local authors will be holding talks and Q&A sessions, and Louisa is delighted that she has been asked to join them.
Last year Louisa published a book about communications and smartphone use called How to Leave a Group Chat, which she debuted at the Abergavenny Writing Festival before it was even published. The topic had the audience talking and thinking about their own experiences of smartphone use, and as the conversation has become even greater during the past year with smartphone bans for children worldwide, and the recent Netflix drama Adolescence dominating the headlines, it’ll be interesting to hear from Louisa and to see what the audience have to say.
All profits from the weekend’s fringe event will be going to the Gathering Community charity, which runs the Tudor Street Centre and used to support people to socialise and take part in activities. The Gathering Community took over the former council-run day centre, on a temporary lease, earlier this year after winning it back from the management of Monmouthshire County Council. The Gathering Community charity will also be doing additional fundraising during the two days to support its activities and sustain the Tudor Street building.
Other talents lined up to take part in this fringe event on Friday (April 4) and Saturday (April 5) are Poet June Penhelog, Author Owen B Lewis, Journalist Amy Arthur and Author Tim Lebbon and Author John Alex Taylor. Local bookshop Book-ish at Tudor Street will be running a pop-up shop during the festival where the participating authors, including Louisa, will be signing copies of their books.
You can also pre-order a copy of How to Leave a Group Chat from Book-ish for Louisa to sign on the day.
Tickets for Louisa’s event can be purchased ahead of the event from ticketsource.co.uk, or attendees are welcome to show up on the day. How to Leave a Group Chat was published by the Book Guild on June 28, 2024.
