FUNDING has been awarded by Neath Port Talbot Council in order to improve two “prominently-located” Neath town centre properties.
The move will see £50,000 worth of funding given towards refurbishment works at the buildings based in Alfred Street, Neath, near the town’s Victoria Gardens and bus station.
The buildings which are used by a “well-established” financial service company were approved for funding by the council’s cabinet member for climate change and economic growth in June 2025.
It will see the £50,000 go towards an overall project worth a total of £102,000 for external alterations to both properties including new shop-front glazing and entrance door set along with with the installation of horizontal timber cladding.
The report read: “This proposal seeks partial funding for external improvements to the front and side elevations of a three-storey corner building and a two-storey mid-link building.
“These buildings are prominently located in Neath town centre, near Victoria Gardens, public transport links, and a large multi-storey car park.”
It added: “Improving the buildings’ appearance will attract more footfall, boosting the vibrancy and vitality of this part of the town centre.
“The works will maintain and retain prime commercial employment space in the town centre, enhance the quality of the built environment, encouraging further economic investment in the area.”
The funding was given as part of the local authority’s Commercial Property Grant scheme in June 2025, used for borough-wide projects that target specific commercial centres, communities first areas, and neighbourhood renewal areas.
