Funds raised through raffles and coffee mornings support lifesaving work
MEMBERS of Margam Women’s Institute have donated £500 to the RNLI following a series of fundraising events and a community talk about the charity’s lifesaving work.
The donation was presented during a meeting held on Thursday (Mar 5) at St Theodore’s Church Hall, where Port Talbot Lifeboat Operations Manager Clive Morris spoke to members about the work carried out by RNLI volunteer crews.
Mr Morris delivered a presentation outlining the role of lifeboat crews and the challenges they face responding to emergencies at sea.
Following the talk, Tricia Davies presented Mr Morris with a cheque for £500 on behalf of the group. The money was raised through raffles and coffee mornings organised by members of the institute.
Mr Morris thanked the group for their support, highlighting the vital role community fundraising plays in helping the RNLI continue its work.
He said: “Without the help of members in our community, the work of the lifeboat station would be much more difficult to undertake.
“Our crews respond to their pagers at any time of day or night and go out to rescue people at sea.
“In that sense, the women of Margam Women’s Institution are lifesavers too, as their fundraising provides vital funds that help us continue our lifesaving work.”
