PLANS to turn a former Neath Port Talbot pub in to affordable flats have been handed in to the local authority.
The proposals submitted by Asbri planning in September could eventually see the former Red Dragon pub in Moorland Road, Sandfields, demolished to make way for 22 flats.
If given the go-ahead by council bosses they would be made up of of 16 one-bedroom flats along with six two-bedroom flats and 23 parking spaces.
The application adds these units would be used as 100% affordable housing and would be managed by a registered social landlord.
In terms of height the proposed new building would be partly three-storey and partly two-storey.

It would be accessed off Abbeyville Avenue with an internal road leading to the majority of the parking spaces.
As well as a detailed landscaping scheme it says it would also provide a communal recreational area at the centre of the development.
This would come with additional amenity space along the southern and western boundaries of the building.
The report handed in to the council said: “In respect of design it is envisaged that the block of flats will provide visual and aesthetic improvement upon the existing street scene – positioning a strong corner building with active frontage that addresses both Moorland Road and Abbeyville Avenue.”
The pub, which is believed to have closed earlier in 2025, is based around 1.9km west of Port Talbot town centre in a largely residential area.
It is also close to Rhosafan Primary School in Sandfields which is set to undergo a major transformation to a new net zero school in the coming years.
The plans for the pub site will now be reviewed by Neath Port Talbot Council’s planning department before a final decision is made.
