Temporary road closure announced near Pontardawe for civil engineering works

A NEATH PORT TALBOT road is set to be temporarily closed next month in order for Openreach to carry out civil engineering works.

A public notice says Gellionen Road near Pontardawe will be closed from its junction with Baran Road in a southerly direction for a distance of 1.5km along its length.

It added that the work will begin on June 17 where it is expected to continue for around three days.

The report said: “The order will come into force on June 17, 2026, and shall continue in force for a maximum duration of 18 months, or until the works are completed whichever is the sooner, but it is anticipated the works will take three days to complete.”

It added: “Gellionen Road will be closed from its junction with Baran Road in a southerly direction for a distance of 1.5km along its length.

“The alternative route for vehicular traffic will be via the unaffected section of Gellionen Road, Baran Road, A474 Commercial Road, Gelli Gron Road, James Street, Swansea Road, and Glan Rhyd Road.”

Access for emergency services and pedestrians is expected to be maintained.
