Residents told to stay indoors as Cardiff street sealed off

POLICE and firefighters have attended the scene of an incident in Cardiff which saw residents told to stay inside their homes after reports of a suspicious item.

Officers from South Wales Police were first called to the Ely area on Tuesday evening at around 5.20pm. they said, and concluded several hours later at around 9pm.

One resident said that Lon Owain in Caerau was blocked off and that he was inside his property for two and a half hours as emergency services investigated a suspicious item.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “We are at the scene of an incident at the moment which is ongoing”. The spokesperson added that they were called at 5.20pm on Tuesday, but would not confirm the nature of the incident.

Herald.Wales understands that the emergency services have been dealing with a suspicious package or packages left near a residential property, but this has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
