Job-share cabinet posts introduced at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council

RCT Council HQ

CHANGES are being made to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s decision-making cabinet with the introduction of job-shares.

Council leader Andrew Morgan has revised his cabinet in a move which the council said will be cost-neutral with no additional costs as the extra members are joining cabinet through job-share arrangements so the member salary is split between the two members sharing that role.

This will be the first time the council has used the job-sharing arrangements provided by Welsh Government through the Local Government and Elections Act (Wales) 2021.

The changes will see Councillor Sharon Rees and Councillor Gareth Caple share the portfolio for health and social care, Councillor Bob Harris and Councillor Scott Emanuel share the portfolio for communities, and Councillor Tina Leyshon and Councillor Ros Davis share the portfolio for resources.

Councillor Morgan will remain as leader and cabinet member for infrastructure and investment, Councillor Maureen Webber remains as deputy leader and cabinet member for council business, Councillor Rhys Lewis remains as cabinet member for education and the Welsh language, Councillor Mark Norris remains as the cabinet member for regeneration and housing, and Councillor Ann Crimmings remains as cabinet member for environmental services.

Council will decide on a new presiding officer, chair of planning committee, and vice-chair of education and inclusion scrutiny committee next week.
