Remains of missing man found six years after disappearance

The remains of a man who vanished six years ago have been discovered, South Wales Police have confirmed.

Jordan Moray, from Cwmbach near Aberdare in Rhondda Cynon Taf, was reported missing from his flat in July 2019, leaving behind his games console still running and his mobile phone on charge.

Police said they received a report of human remains near Llwyn-onn Reservoir in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, commonly known as the Brecon Beacons, on 29 August. The remains have now been confirmed as those of Mr Moray, and authorities have stated that his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Paying tribute on social media, Mr Moray’s brother Josh said: “He wasn’t just my brother, he was my best friend. He’s been a big loss in my life and always will be. Now my mam and dad can lay him to rest. Love you Jordan Moray, can’t wait to meet you again big bro, my heart is lost without you.”

On the sixth anniversary of his disappearance, 24 July, Mr Moray’s mother issued a fresh appeal to find her son. She described each day as “agony” but held on to hope that he would one day return home.

In 2021, there were reported sightings of Mr Moray in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. His family, desperate for answers, spent countless hours searching the surrounding countryside. Mrs Moray previously said: “I search the mountains and the forestry regularly. As soon as we hear something [possible sighting] we’re there. My brother and his wife constantly go all around the mountains on foot and by bike. Jordan’s brother does too.”

Detectives had also hoped a mysterious letter to police could provide a breakthrough. The letter, containing information officers believed might have been helpful, was signed by “Kevin Humphreys.” However, attempts to identify the author were unsuccessful.

The discovery brings some measure of closure for the Moray family, who have endured six long years of uncertainty and grief.
