THREE COMMUNITY Radio stations in Wales have made it onto the shortlist for the 2025 Community Radio Awards.
The Awards have been running for ten years, intending to showcase the passion and commitment of those who work voluntarily to bring quality programming to their local areas, celebrating community radio and the input of volunteers into their stations, shows and communities.
Eleven Community Radio stations are broadcasting across Wales, with three of those, Bro Radio in the Vale of Glamorgan, GTFM in Pontypridd and MônFM in Anglesey, nominated in the 2025 Awards.
GTFM and MônFM are both nominated in the Live Event or Outside Broadcast category, sponsored by Hippynet Broadcast Technologies.
GTFM is being recognised for its coverage of the National Eisteddfod of Wales, which took place in Rhondda Cynon Taf in August 2024. During its visit, volunteers broadcast daily from the Maes, bringing listeners interviews with visitors, organisers, local businesses and politicians, bringing them a flavour of the event and promoting key Welsh phrases for non-speakers.
Whilst MônFM is nominated in the category for its live coverage of Gwyl Cefni 2025.
Bro Radio is nominated in two categories at this year’s awards, Entertainment Show of the Year and Specialist Content Show of the Year, sponsored by Fix Radio for its monthly programme, Bro Radio Juniors.
Hosted by Naomi Cutler and produced by Jamie Pritchard, the show aims to create an adult-free zone, featuring young voices of local children, sharing what they’ve been up to, giving shout-outs to their friends and family, and introducing some of their favourite songs.
On receiving the nomination, Bro Radio Juniors presenter Naomi Cutler said: “It’s an honour for our show to be recognised.
“It’s wonderful that so many young voices in the Vale have contributed to the success – these nominations aren’t just for Bro Radio, but for every one of them, too!”
GTFM Station Manager Terry Mann said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be recognised on a national level. This nomination is a testament to the hard work of our volunteers and the support of our amazing community.
“The National Eisteddfod coming to Rhondda Cynon Taf was by far our biggest ever sustained outside broadcast involving the majority of our volunteers, so this is great news.”
MônFM Chairperson Tomos Dobson said: “We’re really proud that the hard work of our team and volunteers has been recognised nationally. An event like this takes a big team effort.
“Our presenters and producers brought live music and interviews, the studio team kept things running, and our engineers, social media team, journalists, and volunteers worked hard behind the scenes to make it all possible.
“We love sharing local events with our listeners wherever they are, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year.”
The Community Radio Awards take place in Bradford on Saturday ,25th October 2025, where this year’s winners will be announced.
