Cariad, 12, was left seriously injured after a larger dog reportedly jumped a fence and attacked her at family stables.
A TREORCHY woman has launched an online fundraiser after her 12-year-old Jack Russell, Cariad, was left fighting for her life following a savage dog attack at the family stables.
Rhian Jones says Cariad was attacked while digging in a muck heap when a much larger dog from a neighbouring garden allegedly jumped over a fence and set upon her without warning.
Rhian said the dog was around three times Cariad’s size and shook and bit her repeatedly, leaving the small terrier with serious injuries, heavy blood loss and deep cuts.
Cariad was rushed to the vets where staff feared she may not survive. She spent a day receiving emergency treatment before being allowed home overnight, but has since had to return for ongoing care.
Veterinary treatment is continuing and includes the need for an x-ray and stitches, with Rhian saying vets have warned Cariad may never fully recover due to the extent of the damage.
Rhian and her family witnessed the attack but were unable to reach the dog in time to stop it.
“She is such a friendly dog and loves other dogs, so she did not deserve to be beaten so badly,” Rhian said.
Rhian has claimed the dog’s owner has refused to contribute towards the vet bills, allegedly blaming Cariad for the incident. She also claims Cariad is not the first dog to have been attacked.
A GoFundMe page has now been set up to help cover the growing veterinary costs.
So far, the fundraiser has raised £10.
