ACTION FOR CHILDREN’S Ty Robin Goch short breaks service in the Vale of Glamorgan was among the finalists at this year’s Social Care Wales Accolades in the ‘Looking after and improving workplace well-being’ category.
The Barry-based service was highly commended for its work in supporting the wellbeing of its workers during the cost-of-living crisis. Management provided practical support such as introducing a dedicated pantry and a staff member of the month scheme, which awards a voucher based on anonymous nominations.
More than 90 projects and care workers from across Wales entered or were nominated for this year’s awards, before being cut down to a shortlist of 18 by a panel of judges. The winners were announced at Cardiff’s Mercure Holland House hotel late last month.
Ty Robin Goch registered manager, Laura Mason, said: ‘I’m exceptionally proud of Ty Robin Goch being highly commended in the ‘Looking after and improving workplace well-being’ category.
“We picked up that some staff were struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and wanted to provide practical support alongside the support networks and schemes staff are directed to. We introduced a staff pantry filled with essentials that staff could use, which is restocked on a monthly basis, two weeks before payday.
“We also wanted to recognise individual staff members, so we asked staff to anonymously nominate their colleagues for our ‘staff member of the month’ accolade. The staff member with the most nominations each month gets a voucher.
“To be recognised by Social Care Wales in this way is wonderful and underlines the great effort we go to, to support each other in the service. It was lovely to celebrate together at the ceremony in Cardiff.”
Operational Director for Action for Children in Wales, Sandra White, added: ‘I want to say a massive well done to the team for the Social Care Accolade Awards and being highly commended. The event was amazing and I was so proud to be with the members of the team who attended the ceremony.
“The additional schemes they have put in place have made a huge difference to staff during what remains a very challenging time for our staff and richly deserve this commendation from Social Care Wales.’
