HEADLANDS School in Penarth has welcomed a special visit from Vaughan Gething MS, who represents the area in the Senedd, and Alun Michael, former Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales and now an ambassador for Action for Children.
Both former First Ministers of Wales, the pair spent time engaging with students in a samba drums workshop courtesy of Upbeat Music & Arts. The session culminated in a joyous march around the school grounds ending up at the radio station where they took part in an interview with student, Mackenzie who is a member of the Youth Parliament.

Headlands School is an independent special school that offers day and residential placements for individuals aged 7 to 19 who have difficulty learning as a result of early trauma, complex emotional and social issues, and those with a range of diagnosis including autism and attachment difficulties.
Matt Burns, Principal of Headlands School, said: “It was a real honour to welcome Vaughan and Alun to Headlands again.
“They understand the school and their willingness to engage with our students—whether through music or media—made a great impression.

“Days like this show our young people that their voices matter and that they can aspire to lead, create, and connect.”
Speaking after the visit Mr Gething said: “All our young people deserve the best possible opportunities and Action for Children has once again shown just some of the fantastic opportunities they offer.
“It was brilliant to join in with some of the activities including playing as part of the samba band and being interviewed by the fantastic Mackenzie on The Voice.”
