£10m boost for vital social care services across Wales

Funding will support charities helping young people, older residents and vulnerable communities

MORE than £10 million in Welsh Government funding will be made available to support vital social care services across Wales, it has been announced.

The investment, confirmed for 2026–27, will provide a lifeline to organisations delivering essential support to people and families who rely on these services every day – from young people in crisis to older residents living alone.

A wide range of charities and third-sector organisations will benefit from the funding, helping to ensure services remain available when and where they are needed most.

Among those set to benefit is Childline Cymru, which will be able to continue running its free, 24-hour helpline for children and young people under the age of 19, offering confidential support in both English and Welsh.

The Wales Council of the Blind will also receive support to continue its work helping people with sight loss to live as independently as possible, while All Wales People First will carry on advocating for people with learning disabilities, ensuring their voices are heard and reflected in the services they use.

In rural areas such as Powys, older farmers will benefit from a dedicated project delivered by Care & Repair Powys in partnership with Age Cymru Powys, helping them remain safe and independent in their own homes.

Many other organisations providing crucial frontline support across Wales are also expected to benefit from the funding package.

Minister for Children and Social Care, Dawn Bowden, said the investment recognised the essential role played by third-sector organisations.

“Every day, third sector organisations across Wales provide a lifeline to people who need support,” she said.

“This £10 million investment means these vital services can continue helping people in our communities – from a teenager who needs someone to talk to in the middle of the night, to an elderly farmer who wants to stay safe in the home they’ve lived in for many years.

“These organisations do incredible work, and they need certainty to plan ahead and support the people they serve. This funding gives them that security for another year, while we work together to develop even better services for the future.”

The Welsh Government says the funding underlines its ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable people and strengthening community-based care services across the country.
