Burry Port man faces Crown Court trial over child image charges

A BURRY PORT man has been sent to Crown Court after appearing before magistrates in Llanelli on Wednesday (September 11) to face multiple charges relating to indecent and prohibited images of children.

LUKE STAUNTON, aged 24, of Pinged, is accused of possessing and making indecent photographs of children over a period of more than four years.

The court was told that between March 7, 2019, and August 8, 2023, the defendant is alleged to have made a total of 28 indecent images of children — including:

  • 3 Category A images, the most serious level under the legal classification system
  • 9 Category B images
  • 16 Category C images

Staunton also faces a separate charge of possessing two prohibited images of a child, contrary to sections 62(1) and 66(2) of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009.

No pleas were taken during the brief hearing at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court, which was presided over by District Judge M Layton.

Due to the seriousness of the allegations, the bench sent the case to Swansea Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 9:00am.

Staunton was granted unconditional bail.
