A TOWN councillor in Carmarthenshire who is also a county councillor has been disqualified due to lack of attendance at meetings.

Cllr Emyr Rees’ automatic disqualification at Cwmamman Town Council occurred after six months of non-attendance.

He has submitted a letter of resignation to the council which said he was no longer able to give the role the attention and dedication it deserved due to increasing demands on his time and a growing number of commitments.

He thanked fellow councillors and officers for their hard work and support and said he would continue to work closely with the town council in his role as county councillor for Glanaman.

Cllr Rees was elected to represent Glanaman for Labour in the 2022 local Government elections but is now an unaffiliated independent. He has attended 29 out of the 39 county council meetings he’s been scheduled to be at since then.

Meanwhile Cwmamman Town Council will hold an election for the vacant Tircoed seat if more than 10 voters request it by October 24 or fill it another way if an election isn’t requested.
