Cwmamman United 5 Penlan AFC 1: First half blitz stuns Penlan

CWMAMMAN United bounced back from their opening match with West End in midweek, producing a stunning performance in beating visitors Penlan 5-1 in a match where they scored 4 goals in the ten minutes before half time to see off the visitors.

The game didn’t start well for Cwm as they  lost attacker Ryan Cole to injury  in the 12th min and he was replaced by Cam Isaac who went on to have an influential role in the match.

The first 30 mins saw an even game with Cwm just edging the chances, but it all took a turn in the 36th min when Kieran Dawe put Elliot Smith through on goal for a neat finish to give Cwm the lead.

Then in the 39th min neat interplay saw another Dawe assist help Cam Isaac break the Penlan defence to make it 2-0.

Cwm weren’t finished and six minutes later Isaac bagged his second goal and then  Dawe rounded off the half with a powerful effort from a Taylor Smith cross to make it 4-0 at the break.

Cwm came out in the second half knowing that Penlan would give it everything with their reputation for fightbacks and the visitors were briefly lifted in the 59th min when Nayan Green pulled a goal back when he pounced on a rebounded save at a corner.

Cwm though eliminated any hopes of a comeback when within a minute Dawe again played striker Elliot Smith through for his second goal and Cwmamman’s fifth.

With keeper Kai Rees solid, the Cwm back four controlling events and Cam Berry dictating play Penlan struggled to create any meaningful opportunities and it was the home side who came closest to scoring again as the game was played out.

A huge boost for Cwmamman who will now play Giants Grave at Grenig Park on Wednesday evening and travel to play CK Swiss Valley on Saturday (August 16).
