ON MAY 5, 2025, the residents of Ammanford will honour the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, a pivotal moment in history marking the end of World War II in Europe. The “Picnic in the Park”, organised by Betws Community Council, Friends of Betws, Ysgol Betws PTA, and supported by the Military Veterans Club (Cymru), will bring together veterans, families, local officials, and the entire community to commemorate the courage and sacrifice of those who contributed to this historic victory.
This celebration will take place at Betws Park and will feature a variety of activities, including refreshments, a bouncy castle, ice cream truck, games, and competitions. Admission is free, and the public is warmly invited to attend. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnic, blankets, and chairs, and will have the chance to meet veterans, enjoy live music and dancing, and take part in various games and competitions, including a Best 1940s Costume contest.
The event offers a great opportunity for the community to come together, reflect on the significance of the past, and ensure that the memory of VE Day is preserved for future generations.
A spokesperson from Ysgol Betws PTA said: “This year marks a significant milestone in our World history. We’re proud to celebrate and honour the bravery and sacrifices of the Welsh and British men and women who’ve helped shape the world we live in today.”
