Gift made in appreciation of care and support provided during Doris Davies’ final illness
A CARMARTHENSHIRE family has donated more than £750 to a ward at Glangwili Hospital in memory of a much-loved wife and mother.
Mr Hugh Davies and his daughter, Mrs Elin Harris, presented a cheque for £757.31 to Padarn Ward at Glangwili Hospital in memory of Mrs Doris Eiddwen Davies, who passed away at her home in Dryslwyn on February 26, 2026.
The donation was raised through the generosity of family, friends and neighbours, who wished to honour Doris’ memory while also expressing their gratitude for the care she received during her illness.
The family said the donation was made in recognition of the compassionate treatment Doris received from staff on Padarn Ward, as well as the kindness and support shown to her husband, Hugh, during a particularly difficult period.
In addition to the hospital donation, the family has also made a contribution to Marie Curie in appreciation of the care provided to Doris following her discharge from hospital.
To mark what would have been Doris’ birthday, family members visited Padarn Ward to personally thank staff and present the cheque.
Nicola Llewellyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: “We are truly grateful to Mr Hugh Davies and Mrs Elin Harris, and to all their family, friends and neighbours, for their kindness and generosity.
“This special donation in memory of Doris is a beautiful tribute that will be remembered and appreciated by many.
“The generous charitable donations we receive do not replace NHS funding. Instead, they support additional items and activities outside core NHS expenditure. These small extras make a big difference, and we are so grateful for every donation we receive.”
Hywel Dda Health Charities supports patients, staff and services across the Hywel Dda University Health Board area by funding projects and enhancements that go beyond what can be provided through NHS budgets alone.
