Dog owner prosecuted for not clearing dog faeces from garden

CARMARTHENSHIRE County Council has successfully taken action against a dog owner that failed on numerous occasions to clear dog excrement from her garden.

Ms Kelly Williams, of Gorsddu Terrace Penygroes, was not in attendance of a hearing at Llanelli Magistrates Court on Friday, 21 February 2025, but provided a guilty plea in advance of the hearing.

The magistrates sentenced Ms Williams to pay a fine of £215, legal costs of £3470.50 and a victim surcharge of £86.

Speaking after the prosecution, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for enforcement, Cllr Aled Vaughan Owen, said: “I would like to thank our Environmental Health Team for bringing about this prosecution.

“Even within their own gardens, dog owners must dispose of their pet’s poo responsibly, as in addition to the unpleasant smell and the mess created, there is a potential health risk associated with dog faeces.”
