Old Road School says Shwmae Su’mae!

OLD ROAD School welcomed parents and friends to a coffee morning run by the Criw Cymraeg pupils to celebrate Shwmae Su’mae day, October 15th.

Shwmae Su’mae day started in 2013 and has been celebrated ever since. It is about encouraging fun and conversation in the Welsh language, where Welsh learners and speakers greet each other by saying Shwmae!

Miss Phillips of Old Road School in Llanelli is a proud Welsh speaker and keen to encourage others to learn. Miss Phillips set up ‘Caffi Caredig’ last year, which allows pupils to take on the role of servers in the cafe, held at the school. The pupils enjoyed taking orders and serving tea, coffee and of course Welsh cakes to celebrate the occasion.

Guests were then treated to a performance of some Welsh songs, the classic ‘Sospan Fach’ and a school favourite, ‘Hei Mr Urdd’.

Old Road School believe in promoting the Welsh language through education, fun and play, today they are proud to support Shwmae Su’mae day.
