PEMBROKE and Pembroke Dock Amateur Boxing Club & Community Activity Centre is appealing for urgent community support after the recent storm caused the roof of its main gym to collapse. With insurance refusing to cover the damage, the club has launched a fundraising campaign aiming to raise £50,000 to repair the facility.
The grassroots organisation is far more than a boxing gym. It provides inclusive boxing sessions, vocational training, adaptive sports, recovery support, safeguarding workshops, and youth mentoring, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds.
“Our facility is more than bricks and mortar—it’s a living, breathing hub of opportunity, inclusion, and resilience,” a spokesperson said. “Many of our members train for free because we would never not support our community. The roof repair is essential to continue offering these services safely.”
Volunteers aged 16 to 70 form the backbone of the club, delivering programmes that support stroke recovery, Parkinson’s care, and trauma-informed youth mentoring. With demand growing, organisers hope that the funds raised will allow them to restore the gym, upgrade equipment, improve accessibility, and expand the Community Champions programme, which trains local people in leadership and safeguarding.
In a heartfelt tribute, a family connected to the club created a video celebrating its impact. Their son, Finnley, who has cerebral palsy, has already launched his own company, Role Models, at just 11 years old. “This is not a begging post but one of joy and gratitude,” the family said.
The club has so far raised just over £1,000 of its £50,000 target. Organisers emphasise that every donation helps ensure the gym remains a safe, inclusive space for Pembroke and Pembroke Dock residents.
