Bluestone’s Steep Ravine set to reopen this June after restoration work following storm damage

VISITORS to Bluestone National Park Resort this summer can once again look forward to soaring through the ravine on zip lines, toasting marshmallows over the campfire and partying under the stars at the legendary Smokey Joe’s Shindig.

The award-winning Pembrokeshire holiday resort has announced that its much loved Steep Ravine – home to the iconic Camp Smokey – is set to reopen in June, following its closure in December 2024 due to significant damage from Storm Darragh.

Bluestone’s teams have spent the past year carefully restoring the area, carrying out essential recovery work and woodland management.

The reopening brings a refreshed line-up of outdoor adventures designed to help guests unplug and explore the resort’s woodland magic.

The restored Steep Ravine will feature:

  • Camp Smokey – the rustic outdoor dining spot at the foot of the Ravine, perfect for lunches, drinks, BBQ feasts, and marshmallow toasting around the fire.
  • Smokey Joe’s Shindig – high-energy evenings at Camp Smokey with sing-a-longs, dancing, and fun for all the family.
  • Two zip line experiences – a hero zip line and a smaller option for younger adventurers.

Rebecca Rigby, Operations Director at Bluestone, said: “Steep Ravine sits at the heart of Bluestone, so reopening it this June is a proud moment for the whole team.

“The area was heavily impacted during Storm Darragh and the most responsible course of action was to undertake a clear fell and rebuild.

“What you’ll see now is the start of a new phase – a more resilient landscape, a rebuilt Camp Smokey, and a space designed to evolve over time.

“Being within a National Park means we think in generations, not seasons, and this work sets Steep Ravine up for the long term. We can’t wait for our Bluestone families to be able to enjoy the area again.”

Bookings for Camp Smokey and Smokey Joe’s Shindig are now open for stays from June 2026 onwards, with zip line activity bookings set to be released soon. All experiences will be open and ready for guests from June.

Summer breaks start from £400, based on a 4-night stay at a Caldey Lodge (Silver Collection) arriving June 8, 2026.

Guests can book Summer 2026 breaks at Bluestone with a 20% Low Deposit Offer, with the remaining balance not due until 12 weeks prior to arrival.
