Officers leave scene as 57-year-old man remains in custody following explosives discovery
DYFED-POWYS POLICE have thanked the Llanelli community for their support and cooperation after a major incident on New Dock Road led to road closures and evacuations on Wednesday (June 11).
Officers have now stood down from the scene, and a 57-year-old man from Llanelli remains in custody as the investigation continues.
In a statement issued on Thursday afternoon (June 12), a spokesperson said: “We want to again thank the local community for their patience and understanding while the incident was brought to a safe conclusion yesterday evening.”
The incident began on Wednesday afternoon during a planned search warrant under the Explosive Substances Act. A suspected explosive device was discovered at a residential property near the town’s Post Office, triggering a large-scale police response.
Five surrounding roads were cordoned off and homes were evacuated while explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) officers attended. A rest centre was established at Llanelli Leisure Centre for those displaced.

At 9:50pm, police confirmed that one device had been made safe and that there was no longer believed to be a wider threat to the public. Residents were permitted to return to their homes, and all roads were reopened.
Chief Inspector Dominic Jones previously thanked the public, saying: “Local people will see more police in the area over the coming days as enquiries continue.”
The 57-year-old man remains in police custody as detectives pursue further lines of enquiry.
