A SERIES of tennis events brought together more than 250 school pupils from across Swansea.
The three weeks of Jim Lightbody Swansea Primary Schools Tennis Festivals were hosted at secondary schools and on tennis courts at Sketty’s De La Beche Park.
They offered children aged seven to 11 a fun and inclusive introduction to the sport.
They were organised by Swansea Council’s sport and health team and delivered by tennis coach Ellinore Lightbody.
Council cabinet member Robert Francis-Davies said: “This was a fantastic celebration of youth sport, offering a vibrant and encouraging environment for all.”
The events were supported by Swansea young ambassadors and tennis leaders.
Each pupil received a certificate of participation, provided by Tennis Wales and Morriston Rotary Club.
The initiative aimed to give as many children as possible the opportunity to experience tennis, regardless of background or ability.
Participating schools were given an understanding of the Tennis in the Park programme, which allows schools to play across five dedicated Swansea sites.
The Tennis in the Park programme is open to Swansea residents throughout the year.
It offers free access for Passport to Leisure (PTL) members to newly refurbished courts in: Cwmdonkin Park, Uplands; Victoria Park, St Helen’s; Coed Gwilym Park, Clydach; Coed Bach Park, Pontarddulais.
Rates for non-PTL members range from just £2.25 per court. An annual family pass for £39 offers unlimited access to all park courts.
An annual student pass is available for £19, offering unlimited access.
Additionally, there’s free tennis court hire from everybody every Sunday from noon-3pm subject to availability.
