Aberystwyth University’s investment in student accommodation boosts league table rankings

UNI COMPARE has recently published its 2023/24 rankings, which assess every university in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to determine the top 100 universities of the year based on student votes. The rankings are based on a total of 65,015 ratings and 13,003 reviews provided by current and former students. As part of the study, the opinions of students regarding university accommodation options were also considered.

Aberystwyth University stands out in the rankings, as it has invested £16.5 million in the transformation of Patycelyn, a student living facility completed in 2020. The latest league table from Uni Compare indicates that the investment is now reaping rewards for the university. Accommodation at Aberystwyth University is ranked as one of the best in the UK.

According to the survey responses of past and present students, Aberystwyth University’s accommodation score has experienced a remarkable improvement, climbing 50 places to secure the 2nd position overall. This achievement can be attributed, at least in part, to the previous investment, which is a significant accomplishment for the institution. As accommodation plays a crucial role in the lives of students who need to establish a new home in a different city for several years, this outcome is highly favorable for the university.

The accommodation score has played a major role in positioning the institution within the top 30 of the overall ranking, with Aberystwyth University securing the 28th place, marking a remarkable leap of 59 places compared to the previous year’s ranking.

While substantial investments are necessary for student facilities, they can attract some of the most talented students from across the country, enhance their experiences, and contribute to the overall economy of the city.

Owen O’Neil, Founder of Uni Compare, expresses delight in celebrating the new student rankings. He acknowledges the significant impact that university rankings have on both students and institutions. These rankings provide students with valuable insights to guide them towards suitable educational paths while motivating universities to strive for excellence in all aspects of their offerings. O’Neil emphasizes the transformative power of university rankings in shaping the future of higher education.
