Police issue update regarding the heartbreaking death of eight-year-old girl

Police have officially stated that there will be no further actions taken in connection with the tragic passing of a young girl in a Welsh town just three days prior to Christmas last year.

The girl in question, eight-year-old Emily Tredwell-Scott, passed away on December 22, 2022, in Maes-y-Deri, Lampeter, Ceredigion.

Upon notification, HM Coroner for Ceredigion was alerted, and a police investigation was initiated due to the sudden and unexplained nature of the death. During that time, detectives had revealed the arrest of a 33-year-old woman on suspicion of child neglect, which occurred the day following the young girl’s demise. Meanwhile, Public Health Wales was conducting an investigation into potential links to invasive Strep A and collaborated with Ceredigion Council and Hywel Dda University Health Board.

Dr. Graham Brown, a consultant in communicable disease control at Public Health Wales, shared the following statement in the days following Emily’s passing: “We are working with Hywel Dda University Health Board and Ceredigion Council following the death of a child in Lampeter. We offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and all those affected.”

Police, on Tuesday, officially confirmed that Emily’s passing resulted from natural causes and that there will be no additional legal action pursued against the woman who had been previously arrested. A spokesperson representing Dyfed-Powys Police stated: “We can confirm that no further action will be taken against the 33-year old woman who was arrested on suspicion of neglect in connection with the death of 8-year-old Emily Tredwell-Scott. Emily sadly died from natural causes in Maes-y-Deri, Lampeter on the evening of Thursday, December 22, 2022. Our thoughts remain with the family.”
