‘Bad advert for Colwyn Bay’: Residents slam alleyway rubbish mess

The alley between Station Road and Penrhyn Road in Colwyn Bay was littered with rubbish this week.

RESIDENTS say rubbish strewn in a Colwyn Bay alleyway is making the town look a mess.

The alleyway between Station Road and Penrhyn Road was littered with food, plastic containers, bin bags, and empty cans this week.
Onlookers said seagulls feeding off the rubbish then made matters worse.

Local resident Richard Hughes said: “This alleyway is often a bit of a mess, but it was disgusting this week – there was food waste, food packaging, and glass all over the floor, with seagulls picking away at the rubbish.

“It’s terrible for people who live here, but they should also take some responsibility over how they dispose of their waste because everyone can play their part.”

He added: “I don’t know what the problem is here – whether the council are not doing enough collections or people are just being irresponsible with how they get rid of their rubbish, but this is a bad advert for Colwyn Bay. Although the alleyway is a bit hidden away, it is well used, and this does not reflect well on the town.”

A spokeswoman for Conwy County Council said: “We haven’t received any reports of issues in this area, but from the picture it looks like a mix of commercial and domestic bins.

“We have put in a request for a cleansing team to visit the area. We’d urge people to report incidents like this via the Report It section on our website: https://erf.reporting.conwy.gov.uk, emailing [email protected], or by calling the Environment, Roads and Facilities advice team on 01492 575337.”
