Move brings comfort and peace of mind
A RETIRED couple from Buckley have spoken of their “best decision” after moving home for the first time in 40 years to be closer to family following a devastating bereavement.
Ken and Shirley Norton, both in their 70s, have relocated to a new property at Bryn Castell in New Brighton near Mold – the latest development from national housebuilder Lovell Homes.
The move, they said, was not simply about downsizing, but about ensuring they could support their loved ones following the loss of their son 18 months ago.
Although Buckley and Mold are only a short drive apart, the couple said the change has made a major difference, allowing them to be closer to their daughter, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren aged between six and 17.
Ken, a former Airbus employee, said: “We want to be able to help with the kids whenever needed – school runs, childminding, and a bit of a taxi service.

“Being just a short distance away at Bryn Castell means we can be there in minutes. We want to be involved in their lives as well as be a support system, and this location makes that possible.”
The couple initially considered older properties in Mold but soon concluded that a new build would offer better value and avoid the stress of renovation.
Shirley, who previously worked in retail, said: “When we began our house hunting journey, we looked at the price of older homes and then factored in how much a new kitchen or other work would cost to bring them up to standard.
“We realised a new build actually worked out better for us. With wanting to spend more time with our family, we wouldn’t have the time or desire to take on a major renovation project. The guarantees that come with a Lovell home gave us total peace of mind.”
To speed up the move and secure their preferred Wentworth plot, the Nortons used Lovell’s part exchange scheme, which allowed them to complete their relocation more quickly.
Ken said: “We put our house on the market in the summer, and to secure a sale and move quicker it was suggested we go with part exchange.
“Simone and Mel were brilliant. They kept chasing things to keep the momentum going and Alex, the site manager, has been top-of-the-class at sorting any minor niggles with no fuss.”
Since moving in shortly before Christmas, the couple say they have settled well into the village-style atmosphere at Bryn Castell.
Their new home includes a garden chosen for its position, offering sunrise views at the front and evening sun at the rear, which they have recently landscaped in preparation for spring.
Shirley added: “We loved it as soon as we walked in. It’s a quiet, lovely community. We’ve got friendly neighbours, and such easy access to everywhere.

“The bus routes into Mold are a huge bonus, and the A55 is close so we can head to the coast, Wrexham or Chester. It just feels right.”
Bryn Castell offers a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes near Mold.
