Carmarthen Kings crowned SWBA Division 3 Cup Champions

CARMARTHEN KINGS have completed a historic debut campaign by winning the South Wales Basketball Association (SWBA) Division 3 Cup with a 60–54 victory over Beddau Knights 2 at Cardiff University’s Sports Training Village. The result crowns an unbeaten season for the Carmarthen side and delivers the first piece of regional silverware in the club’s history.

In a tense final played in front of strong travelling support, Kings held their nerve against a determined Beddau outfit to secure the title. The game remained close throughout, but clutch three‑pointers from both the coach and the captain in the closing minutes ensured the trophy would be heading back to West Wales.

Carmarthen’s offence was led by captain Tal Remec with 20 points, supported by 17 from head coach‑player George Spencer and 15 from Richard Rees, while Junior Manhede (4), Jonty Toland (3) and Harrison Walters (1) completed the scoring. The display reflected the balance that has underpinned Kings’ season, with contributions from across the roster at both ends of the floor.

Speaking after the final, George Spencer paid tribute to the squad’s resilience and development over the course of the year.

George said: “We did it, lads – to go unbeaten and then win a cup final in Cardiff is a fantastic achievement for this group and for everyone who has backed us from Carmarthen and across West Wales,” he said.

The coach highlighted the grit the team showed to grind out a result when the performance was not at its free‑flowing best, stressing that finding a way to win on days like this is what turns a good side into a championship team. Spencer also reserved special praise for the volunteers and behind‑the‑scenes staff whose work in organising venues, travel and administration has underpinned the club’s success.

He said: “A big thank you to our travelling supporters who made themselves heard throughout the game – we wouldn’t be able to do it without you.”

Carmarthen Kings have also acknowledged the backing of their sponsors, whose support has allowed the team to compete at regional level. The club described its unbeaten, cup‑winning campaign as a shared achievement with partners and supporters, noting that this season’s success was powered by ProVen biotics.
