Powys Building Control retains international quality accreditation

POWYS County Council’s Building Control service has successfully renewed its ISO 9001 quality management system accreditation, following a comprehensive renewal audit.

The external audit, carried out by the British Standards Institution, confirmed that the service continues to meet the internationally recognised standard for quality management systems, with the accreditation will now in place until 2029.

During the audit, the external assessor praised the service’s strong and positive culture and recognised the improvements already delivered through the introduction of a new system which is helping improve how the Building Control team manages its work and supports customers.

ISO 9001 is the world’s leading standard for quality management and is used by more than a million organisations worldwide. It provides a clear framework to help organisations deliver consistent, high-quality services, meet customer expectations and continuously improve. The accreditation focuses strongly on customer satisfaction, helping ensure that services remain responsive, efficient and fit for the future.

For residents and businesses using the council’s Building Control service, this accreditation means they can expect:

  • Reliable, consistent service – clear processes that ensure applications, inspections and decisions are handled to a high standard
  • Clear communication – systems and processes to keep customers informed at each stage
  • Fast and efficient service – through streamlined ways of working
  • Continuous improvement – regular reviews to make sure the service keeps getting better
  • Confidence and reassurance – independent confirmation that the service meets recognised national and international standards

Cllr Richard Church, Cabinet Member for Legal and Regulatory Services, said: “This is an excellent achievement for our Building Control service and a clear reflection of the dedication and professionalism of the team.

“Retaining ISO 9001 accreditation shows that the service is committed to delivering high-quality, reliable services for its customers across Powys.

“The improvements being made, including the introduction of new systems, mean customers can expect a more efficient and responsive service.

“Continuous improvement is vital to everything we do as a council, and this recognition highlights the strong culture and innovation within the service.”

The renewal demonstrates the council’s continued commitment to delivering efficient, high-quality services as part of its ambition to build a stronger, fairer and greener Powys.
