First ever Pebble Cup tees off for Tŷ Hafan

A GROUP of fathers supported by Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice and a team of local businessmen recently teed off for the first ever Pebble Cup tournament in aid of Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice.

Twelve Tŷ Hafan dads, ‘the Dads’ took on 12 of Tŷ Hafan’s corporate supporters, ‘the Supporters’, at the new event which took place at Coed y Mwstwr Golf Club, in Bridgend, on Thursday, May 21.

The brainchild of Tŷ Hafan dad Paul Fears and organised by Sorrel Mayo, Senior Relationship Fundraiser for Tŷ Hafan, the Pebble Cup was about much more than scorecards.

Sorrel said: “It was a day where every shot told a story, and every swing helped to reinforce the challenges faced by families of children with life-shortening conditions.

“In the end The Supporters won the day, but from the amazing feedback I’ve had, the day was clearly meaningful and very emotional for everyone who took part.”

Main sponsors of the day were Gary Mitchell Owner / Director at Cambria Consulting Ltd and Anthony Boggis at TLC Wales.

Corporate supporters taking part were:

  • The Dragon Group
  • Cambria Consulting Ltd
  • TLC Wales
  • Beacon Business Interiors (Bbi)
  • Sphere Solutions Ltd
  • Envisage Envelope Solutions
  • Stable – people. technology. Solutions
  • iON Consultants
  • Tiny Rebel – Food and Beverage Services Beacon Business Interiors
  • Evol Wales.

Gary Mitchell, Owner/ Director of Cambria Consulting Ltd, said: “Tŷ Hafan Hospice and their dedicated team of incredible Dads and Supporters had a fantastic Ryder Cup-style golfing marathon at The Tŷ Hafan Pebble Cup.

“I had the honour of captaining the Supporters team over 36 holes. Whilst the team performance was not all that charitable, I can confirm mine was! The Supporters pulled off some impressive golf and excellent scoring, leading to the Supporters claiming the inaugural Tŷ Hafan Pebble Cup.

“A big thank you to Gareth Summerton at Coed-y-Mwstwr Golf Club for their lovely hospitality and for sharing their fantastic course with us. They kept us well fed and hydrated, and I’m sure Tŷ Hafan will be back.

“The warmth, laughter, and camaraderie of the Tŷ Hafan Dads truly highlighted the inclusivity and welcoming nature of the Tŷ Hafan family. The critical support provided to everyone, at different stages of their challenging journeys, is awe-inspiring. I left feeling very humbled.

“Cambria Consulting Ltd is now into the second year of our partnership, and just when you think you understand their work and its significance, something unexpected happens that leaves you in awe. Thank you to all the Dads who took part for giving us such a fantastic day.”

Anthony Boggis, Head of Disabilities at TLC Wales, said:  “At TLC Wales we are incredibly proud to support Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice – a charity that plays such a vital role in the lives of children with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions, many of whom we are privileged to care for and support.

“For me personally, this support is deeply meaningful. As a Tŷ Hafan dad and a member of the Dads Group, I have experienced firsthand the exceptional care, compassion, and community they provide – not just to children, but to entire families.

“We at TLC Wales understand the challenges carers particularly males encounter around mental health and discussing feelings and experiences when caring for children with life-shortening conditions, which makes events such as the Pebble Cup even more important.

“That is why we were so proud to sponsor the Pebble Cup. This event is about far more than fundraising. It’s about raising awareness, creating space for connection, and bringing together Tŷ Hafan dads and supporters in a way that builds understanding and lasting support networks.

“It allows stories, experiences, and the legacies of the children and families supported by Tŷ Hafan to be shared with those who may not otherwise have that direct connection.

“The day itself was fantastic – a long but thoroughly enjoyable 36 holes of golf, played in great weather and even better company. While the quality of golf may have varied at times, the spirit of the day never did. It was a truly memorable experience.

“From a corporate perspective, it also provided a valuable opportunity to network, share knowledge, and build relationships with other organisations – something that simply wouldn’t have happened without this event.

“We would like to extend a huge thank you to Paul Fears and Sorrel Mayo for organising such a well-run and meaningful event. The bespoke golf wear was fantastic, and it was great to see our logo immaculately displayed on the shirts.

“TLC Wales is extremely proud to continue to support Tŷ Hafan as one of our chosen charities, and we are honoured to have been part of the Pebble Cup. We are already looking forward to the next one.”
