Gorslas student joins growing team as Ashmole & Co continues commitment to nurturing local talent
A YOUNG trainee accountant from Carmarthenshire is helping to shape the future of one of south and west Wales’ largest accountancy firms after joining the Ammanford office of Ashmole & Co.
Mia Harries, from Gorslas, recently began her career with the firm after completing her A Levels at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Maes y Gwendraeth.
She joined Ashmole & Co as a Trainee Accountant and is currently studying towards her AAT Level 2 qualification through Coleg Sir Gâr while gaining practical experience in the workplace.
The accountancy firm, which has offices across south and west Wales, says investing in local talent is key to its continued success and its commitment to supporting rural communities.
As part of her role, Mia assists with the preparation of accounts, VAT returns and tax returns for a wide range of clients, including local businesses, sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
Laura Craddock, Partner at Ashmole & Co’s Ammanford office, said developing future accountants was essential for the profession.
“It is important that we help nurture the next generation of professional accountants,” she said.
“Trainee staff members are the lifeblood of the future success of our firm.
“We are a local business and our commitment to sourcing local talent stems from our belief that the success of our business is closely tied to the wellbeing of the community around us.
“By hiring locally, we can help build a more robust and resilient economy.”
Before joining the firm full-time, Mia gained valuable experience through a one-day-a-week work placement while studying for her A Levels.
She said the opportunity helped confirm her career ambitions.
“I’m grateful to Ashmole & Co for giving me this opportunity as a trainee,” she said.
“I was fortunate to gain work experience with the firm while I was doing my A Levels and that influenced my decision to pursue this career.
“It is very rewarding to learn new things at college and then put them into practice in the office.”
Away from work and study, Mia enjoys playing netball, walking, camping and spending time with family and friends.
Ashmole & Co is one of the largest chartered certified accountancy firms in south Wales and regularly recruits both qualified and trainee staff as it continues to expand across the region.
