SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Fflint Wrecsam is backing a week-long event to highlight trees and woodlands in Wrexham.
Mr Rowland, Welsh Conservative spokesperson for Education and Families, has a keen interest in nature and the environment and encouraging people to embrace the outdoors.
He said: “I am always happy to promote this fantastic event and urge everyone to go along to the launch at Alyn Waters Country Park on Saturday June 13.
“I am a great supporter of trees in our community and share Wrexham County Borough Council’s view that they should be celebrated in the area.
“It is good to see such a varied programme of events planned for the week as we all know the benefits of trees and woodlands for people and wildlife.
“It is really important to get involved and help to highlight the importance of making sure we can all experience green spaces. I would urge anyone interested to take part.”
Now in its fourth year, the initiative, led by the Wrexham Forest Partnership, will focus on the theme of ‘Accessibility for All’, highlighting the importance of ensuring everyone can experience and enjoy local green spaces and woodlands.
The week starts at Alyn Waters Country Park, today (June 13) from 11-3pm with a day of playful discovery and nature craft as well as utilising the accessible trails that run through the park for a nature themed treasure hunt.
Join organisations such as Woodland Trust, Woodswork CIC, Llais y Goedwig and Wrexham Council and take part in several activities including campfire cooking, Happa Zome leaf printing, make your own butterfly feeder and a nature inspired treasure hunt.
Throughout the week will showcase how woodlands support health and wellbeing, provide vital habitats for wildlife, and help build a greener future for the next generation in Wrexham.
Jacinta Challinor, chair of Wrexham Forest Partnership said: “Trees and woodlands provide so many benefits for health and wellbeing and its important that everyone can experience them equally.
“This years woodland connections week draws attention to this through a collection of events to explore what it would take to achieve this and the many benefits equitable access to trees would provide.”
Wrexham Woodland Connections Week is an opportunity to celebrate what has already been achieved and to inspire continued action. By working together, partners can strengthen connections between people, nature and place – helping to build a greener, healthier and more resilient Wrexham for the future.
