Sajid Idris, 44, is accused of disseminating a terrorist publication and supporting the proscribed organisation Al-Muhajiroun
A CARDIFF man has appeared in court charged with a series of terrorism offences following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing Wales.
Sajid Idris, 44, appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 17.
He is charged with disseminating a terrorist publication, intending or being reckless as to whether it would encourage an act of terrorism, and supporting the proscribed organisation Al-Muhajiroun.
Idris was remanded in custody and is due to appear at the Central Criminal Court, also known as the Old Bailey, on Friday, August 21.
Assistant Chief Constable Trudi Meyrick, of South Wales Police, said officers understood the concern the charges could cause in Cardiff and across South Wales.
She said: “We understand how concerning these charges will be to the Cardiff communities and our wider communities of South Wales and want to reassure them that we are working closely with Counter Terrorism Policing to keep the public safe.
“Whilst there was no direct identified threat to our communities, I encourage the public to remain vigilant and report anything of concern to police in confidence at gov.uk/ACT.”
Proceedings remain active.
