A MOLD opticians has helped local residents stay hydrated during the heatwave by handing out more than 80 bottles of water at the town’s weekly market.
With temperatures reaching 30 degrees, team members from Specsavers Mold joined market-goers to share advice on the importance of hydration for eye health and protecting vision during warmer weather.
Dehydration can reduce tear production, leading to symptoms such as dry, irritated eyes, blurred vision and eye fatigue. It can also cause discomfort and increased sensitivity for people who wear contact lenses.
Jack Davies, retail director at Specsavers Mold, says: ‘It was lovely to meet so many local people during Mold Market Day and share some simple advice about the importance of staying hydrated for eye health.
‘Small steps, such as drinking enough water and protecting your eyes from the sun, can help people stay comfortable during warmer weather. We’re really pleased we could do our bit to help.’
The community initiative follows the store’s charity bake off and raffle held during Deafblind Awareness Week (June 22–28), which raised £250 for Deafblind UK.
Deafblindness is the combined loss of sight and hearing to the extent that communication, mobility and access to information are affected. Also known as dual sensory loss, it affects nearly 450,000 people in the UK.
Mr Davies adds: ‘We’re delighted to have raised £250 for Deafblind UK, which provides such vital support, advice and companionship for people living with dual sensory loss, helping to reduce isolation and improve independence.’
